BJP leaders and party workers were seen on the streets from early morning hours to make the bandh a success. ''There are complaints of forced closure of shops and market places at several places. Tyres were also burnt on the road to put up blockades. We have removed all the blockades. There is no effect of the shutdown on normal life. Situation is under control. It is peaceful, '' a senior Purba Medinipore district police official told PTI. One person was arrested and another has been detained for allegedly forcing people from going about their normal life, he added. BJP booth president of Moyna, Bijaykrishna Bhunia, was reportedly beaten up by ''TMC goons'' in front of his wife on his way back home on Monday evening and was forcibly taken away by them in a motorbike, the saffron party had on Tuesday claimed. His body, with an injury mark on the head, was found on Monday late at night at a distance from his residence. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikary demanded a CBI probe into the incident. The TMC dismissed BJP's allegations as ''baseless'' and said it was an attempt to politicise the issue.

Moyna is considered the backyard for Adhikari, who is a lawmaker from Nandigram, and the saffron camp has considerable influence in the area. Former cricketer and BJP leader Ashok Dinda is MLA from the area.
