The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has done 'Congressisation' of itself in pursuit of power reflected in its 2020 toppling of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh and by rewarding with ministerial posts those who switched sides, , Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha has said.

Tankha told reporters in Indore on Wednesday night that the problem with the BJP was that it had given 50 per cent of state cabinet posts to leaders who left the Congress and joined the saffron outfit.

You (BJP) have Congressised your party in pursuit of toppling the Kamal Nath government and have not given enough space to your own people in the cabinet,” said the senior lawyer.

Tankha said Congress leaders who lost Assembly by-elections after joining the BJP have been made chairpersons of state-run corporations.

The Nath government collapsed on March 20, 2020, after 22 rebel Congress MLAs who were supporters of senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from the Assembly and joined the BJP. After this, the BJP returned to power under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

''There is a lot of discontent in the BJP these days. Those who have served the BJP with loyalty for years are being considered disloyal. On the other hand, those who came to the BJP from the Congress are being considered loyal to the party,'' he said.

Asked whether a ban would be considered against the Bajrang Dal if the Congress comes to power in Madhya Pradesh after Assembly elections due later this year, Tankha said it was a non-issue in the state.

He said differences between majority and minority communities in violence-hit Manipur should be resolved through talks.
