Congress to declare names of Shimla mayor, deputy mayor on May 15

The Congress, which registered a landslide win in the recent Shimla Municipal Corporation elections, will declare the names of the mayor and the deputy mayor on May 15, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Thursday.

Sukhu, who returned to Himachal Pradesh after a weeklong tour of Delhi and Karnataka, said the party's newly elected councillors will discuss the names of potential candidates during a meeting on May 14 and the decision will be announced the following day.

Civic elections in Shimla were held on May 2 and the results declared on May 4. The Congress won 24 of the 34 wards. The BJP won nine wards and the CPI(M) one while the AAP, which had contested from 21 seats, drew a blank.

Sukhu also said that the Congress will win the assembly polls in Karnataka and the exit polls also indicated a victory for the party.
