Taiwan opposition talks on presidential bid appear to collapse

Talks between Taiwan's main opposition parties on forming a joint presidential bid appeared to collapse on Thursday after the larger of the two parties walked out of talks following bitter negotiations broadcast live on television.

Parties have until late Friday afternoon to register their presidential candidates with the election commission. The ruling Democratic Progressive Party did so on Tuesday ahead of the Jan. 13 presidential and parliament elections.
