James Orengo reveals Raila Odinga as President Kenyatta’s 2022 surprised candidate

Siaya Senator James Orengo says President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to surprise the Kenyans by declaring the name of his preferred successor. According to Orengo, he is likely to endorse the former Prime Minister of Kenya Raila Odinga for the 2022 presidential race.

“We are saying that the leadership of Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga is going to produce the next President of the Republic of Kenya,” the highly renowned Kenyan lawyer-cum-politician said.

“I’m glad when President Uhuru Kenyatta was saying he is going to surprise people in Jubilee as to who is going to be the next President of the Republic of Kenya, he was saying that knowing that (William) Ruto is the Deputy President… and that surprise, according to us, practically and for all reasons, is Raila Odinga,” he added.

He also said that there would be a referendum to address the 20 percent of the Constitution that required attention.

Kenya’s President Kenyatta earlier assured in November that he would be at the centre of succession politics toward the completion of his final term.

“They think because Uhuru is going home in 2022, he will not have a word on what will happen. I’m telling them when the right time comes, I’ll have something to say, the 57-year old President said while addressing a rally in Nyeri town.

He further added that some people think he is quiet because he isn’t capable of discussing politics. He reminded the crowd he is still a politician. “They will be shocked when that time comes, but for now I want to concentrate on delivering my pledges to Kenyans,” he added.
