Speculation Rises Over Early Election as Ministers Cancel Events

British broadcaster ITV's deputy political editor, Anushka Asthana, reported that government insiders were informed of an imminent election but not given a date. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's actions, including the cancellation of ministerial events, have fueled speculation about a possible early election.

British broadcaster ITV's deputy political editor Anushka Asthana said some people in Britain's government had been told an election was being announced, but they were not told the date.

"Some folk in govt have been told an election is being announced but they weren’t told the date," Asthana said in a post on x.

Earlier, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak failed to stem growing speculation that he might call an early election after ministers cancelled events and either curtailed or delayed foreign trips to attend a government meeting.
