BJP Triumphs in Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections

The BJP won 13 assembly seats and led in 23 more in Arunachal Pradesh. The NPEP secured one segment and led in four, while the NCP and PPA had leads in three and two seats respectively. Counting of votes started early morning amid rain and enthusiastic supporters.

The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has secured a significant victory by clinching 13 assembly seats and leading in 23 constituencies, as reported by the Election Commission on Sunday. This comes after the saffron party had already won 10 seats unopposed in the 60-member assembly during the Lok Sabha polls' first phase on April 19.

BJP candidates Wangling Lowangdong from Borduria-Bogapani, Hamjong Tangha from Changlang South, and Tesam Pongte from Changlang North emerged victorious. Additionally, Wangki from Lowang Namsang and Balo Raja from Palin were declared winners, underscoring BJP's dominating performance. In a notable contest, independent candidate Wanglam Sawin retained the Khonsa East seat, defeating BJP's Kamrang Tesia by 2,216 votes. Sawin, a former BJP member, was denied a ticket this time.

The National People's Party (NPEP) nominee Pesi Jilen won the Liromoba seat and the party is leading in four constituencies. Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leads in three seats and the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) in two. An independent candidate is also leading, according to the Election Commission's trends. Despite the rainy weather, hundreds of enthusiastic supporters gathered near the counting centres from early morning.
