CEC Dares Opposition: Prove Influence Claims or be Silent

CEC Rajiv Kumar challenged the opposition to provide evidence of accusations that returning officers and district magistrates were influenced during the poll process. He urged the opposition to identify any interference attempts before vote counting begins. This comes amidst allegations from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh about Home Minister Amit Shah's actions.

In a bold move, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has thrown down the gauntlet to the opposition, demanding tangible proof of claims that returning officers and district magistrates were compromised to manipulate the electoral process. Kumar, speaking at a press conference with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu, urged opposition parties to bring forth evidence and identify those attempting to influence the elections before the vote counting starts.

'You cannot spread a rumour and bring everyone under a cloud of suspicion,' Kumar asserted, emphasizing that the Commission had readied itself to counter any foreign interference but was now confronted with internal allegations. This pointed remark appeared to be directed at the opposition.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had accused Home Minister Amit Shah of contacting district magistrates and collectors, alleging a pattern of intimidation. Kumar responded by stating that any specific allegations should be named so that appropriate actions could be taken. The allegations come as Kumar announced the acceptance of demands made by a multi-party delegation, integrating them into the election protocols that have been followed over the past seven decades.
