The cabinet officially informed the governor of the completion of the BJD government’s tenure and urged the dissolution of the assembly ahead of the counting exercise, according to an official statement.

Constitutional provisions mandate that the state cabinet pass a resolution for assembly dissolution post-election results declaration. The Naveen Patnaik-led government, which first took office on May 29, 2019, has governed Odisha since 2000. The recent elections were held in four phases from May 13 to June 1.
