All eyes are on Mizoram as preparations for counting votes in the lone Lok Sabha seat have been finalized, according to a senior official.

Tight security arrangements are in place as the counting of votes is set to begin at 8 am on Tuesday across 13 centres. Aizawl’s Deputy Commissioner Nazuk Kumar, who also serves as the returning officer for the Lok Sabha polls, stated that 16 counting observers have been deployed for the process.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas earlier disclosed that over 2,000 officials will be part of the counting exercise. Out of over 8.56 lakh eligible voters, 56.6 percent cast their votes on April 19. The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has nominated debutant Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, while the Mizo National Front (MNF) fielded incumbent Rajya Sabha member K Vanlalvena.

The Congress nominated former state home secretary Lalbiakzam, while the BJP fielded its state president Vanlalhmuaka and the People's Conference (PC) nominated singer and lyricist Rita Malsawmi. Despite six candidates vying for the seat, the primary battle is expected between ZPM, MNF, and Congress.
