In a significant political twist, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's brother, D K Suresh, was defeated in the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha seat. The margin of defeat was a staggering 2,69,647 votes.

The win went to eminent cardiologist Dr. C N Manjunath, son-in-law of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who contested under the BJP banner. Manjunath's victory came as part of an arrangement between the alliance partners BJP and JD(S).

According to the Election Commission, Suresh, the only Congress candidate to win the 2019 Lok Sabha election in Karnataka, garnered 8,09,355 votes, while Manjunath received 10,79,002 votes.
