Aatral Ashok Kumar, the AIADMK contestant from Erode, stood out as the wealthiest candidate among the 950 aspirants in Tamil Nadu's April 19 Lok Sabha polls, declaring assets worth over Rs 500 crore.

Despite his spirited campaign and significant financial backing, Kumar was unable to withstand the DMK wave, with KE Prakash of the ruling party securing victory by a margin of 236,566 votes in the western constituency.

Kumar, who garnered 3,25,773 votes out of the 10,93,423 polled, had earlier reported net assets of Rs 583.48 crore, distinguishing himself not only as a debutant politician but also as a prominent educationalist and businessman.
