Animosity between North and South Korea has intensified as North Korea resumed flying balloons on Saturday, likely to drop trash once again on South Korea. This comes just two days after South Korean activists sent their own balloons with propaganda leaflets to the North.
The conflict escalated when North Korea launched hundreds of balloons filled with manure and trash, protesting earlier South Korean leafletting campaigns. In response, South Korea suspended agreements meant to ease military tensions and resumed frontline military activities.
The recent balloon launches by North Korea mark the third incident since May 28. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff warned the public to beware of falling objects and urged them to report any found balloons. This ongoing tit-for-tat action raises the risk of further military confrontations between the two nations.
