In a remarkable show of resilience, Ukraine announced on Sunday that its forces have successfully hit a Russian Su-57 fighter aircraft stationed at an air base nearly 600 kilometers from the front lines. This achievement follows the recent authorization from Western allies, allowing Kyiv to utilize their weapons for targeted strikes inside Russia.
Satellite images released by Ukraine's main military intelligence service exhibit the aftermath of the aerial assault, featuring black soot and crater marks encircling the aircraft parked on a concrete strip. The incident took place on Saturday at the Akhtubinsk base in southern Russia, signaling a major victory for Ukraine, which has significantly ramped up its domestic drone production in recent months.
The strike stands as the first known successful attack on Moscow's most advanced military aircraft, potentially carried out by drones. The United States and Germany have recently greenlit Ukraine's use of long-range weapons, shifting the dynamics of the conflict. Meanwhile, Russian shelling has continued to claim civilian lives in Ukraine, intensifying the urgency for robust defense strategies.
