Armenia's Bold Move: Exit from Russia-Dominated Security Alliance

Armenia's Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, declared on Wednesday his nation's intention to exit the Russia-dominated Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO). The alliance, which includes several ex-Soviet nations, has seen increasing friction between Armenia and Russia.

During a parliamentary question-and-answer session, Pashinyan disclosed that Armenia would eventually leave the CSTO, but a specific timeline has yet to be confirmed. This announcement comes as Armenia has frozen its participation in the alliance and canceled involvement in joint military drills, marking a significant geopolitical shift.

The decision follows accusations that Russian peacekeepers failed to intervene during Azerbaijan's military campaign to seize the Karabakh region, a stance Moscow vehemently denies. Adding to the complexities, Armenia's growing Western ties, including joining the International Criminal Court, have further strained its relationship with Russia.
