Modi and Sunak Fortify India-UK Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to further strengthen the India-UK strategic partnership. They reviewed the progress on the ongoing FTA negotiations during their meeting at the G7 Summit in Italy. Both leaders emphasized deepening ties in technology, trade, and defence sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday engaged in a pivotal meeting with his British counterpart, Rishi Sunak, with the intent to fortify the India-UK strategic partnership during the third term of the NDA government. The discussions, held on the sidelines of the 50th G7 Summit at Borgo Egnazia in Apulia, Italy, reviewed the advances in the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.

The encounter between the two leaders began with a warm embrace, signifying the camaraderie that has developed between the two nations. Shortly after the meeting, Modi expressed on social media his commitment to further enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK.

Key areas of discussion included semiconductors, technology, trade, and the defence sector, as well as the Roadmap 2030. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the meeting as “fruitful,” noting that they addressed critical sectors and reviewed the progress of the FTA, which aims to significantly boost bilateral trade.
