U.S. President Joe Biden confronted new doubts about his re-election prospects on Wednesday from influential figures Nancy Pelosi and George Clooney, raising questions among Democratic lawmakers and donors. Former House Speaker Pelosi, a staunch Biden ally, stated on MSNBC that Biden needs to decide rapidly whether to continue his White House bid, although she refrained from endorsing his decision unequivocally.

Hollywood actor Clooney, who had co-hosted a fundraiser for Biden, rescinded his support in a New York Times piece, arguing Biden was no longer the leader he was a few years ago. Despite Biden’s affirmations of staying in the race, Pelosi’s comments indicated he might face renewed calls from Democrats to step down.

Biden has spent two weeks trying to hold off defections within the party, despite concerns about his age and ability to defeat Republican Donald Trump. The president reiterated his commitment to running and dismissed his June 27 debate performance as an anomaly, urging unity among Democrats.
