Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has called on the public to steer clear of using derogatory language against former Union minister Smriti Irani or any other political figures. This appeal came after Irani vacated her official residence following her defeat in the Lok Sabha elections to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma in Amethi.

Gandhi emphasized that winning and losing are inherent aspects of political life and urged everyone to maintain respect in discourse. His remarks followed Irani's move from her official bungalow at 28 Tughlak Crescent in Lutyens' Delhi, after losing the parliamentary seat by a margin of over 1.6 lakh votes.

Irani, who was previously celebrated for defeating Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 elections, was subjected to ridicule by some individuals after her recent electoral defeat. Gandhi condemned such behavior, asserting that humiliation and insults reflect weakness rather than strength.
