Congress's Lakhpat Singh Butola clinched a decisive victory in the Badrinath assembly by-election on Saturday, defeating his closest competitor, BJP's Rajendra Singh Bhandari, by a margin of 5,224 votes.
The election, held on July 10, saw a total turnout of 54,228 votes. Of these, Butola secured 28,161 votes for the Congress, while the BJP managed 22,937 votes. Notably, Bhandari received 10,000 fewer votes compared to the 2022 assembly elections.
Independent candidate Naval Kishor Khali took third place with 1,813 votes, followed by Himmat Singh of the Sainik Samaj Party, who obtained 494 votes.
