The Pakistan government has escalated its crackdown on Imran Khan, announcing its decision to ban his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The government accuses PTI of illegally receiving foreign funds, inciting nationwide riots, and engaging in 'anti-state' activities, which could lead to treason charges against the jailed former prime minister.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, outlined the government's stance during a press conference, emphasizing PTI's damaging influence on the country's sovereignty and international standing. He stated that PTI and Pakistan 'cannot co-exist', signaling robust legal actions and a petition to the Supreme Court.

This development follows the federal government's decision to prosecute PTI founder Imran Khan and former president Arif Alvi for constitutional subversion. Amidst looming legal battles, Khan remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail, facing multiple charges since his ouster in April 2022.
