Russia Accuses US of Hypocrisy at UN Security Council
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the US of holding the West 'at gunpoint' during a UN Security Council session. The US responded by criticizing Russia's actions in Ukraine. Lavrov's claims were refuted by Western diplomats, who condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its hypocrisy in international relations.
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the United States on Tuesday of holding the entire West 'at gunpoint' and hindering international cooperation. This claim was strongly denounced by the US ambassador to the United Nations as 'hypocrisy' by a nation that invaded Ukraine.
The confrontation occurred during Russia's showcase event in its current presidency of the UN Security Council. Lavrov flew from Moscow to preside over the meeting, focusing on 'Multilateral cooperation for a more just, democratic and sustainable world order.'
Prior to the meeting, Ukraine's UN Ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya, read a statement on behalf of approximately 50 countries, including the United States. They condemned Russia's aggressive actions in Ukraine and highlighted its hypocrisy in professing to uphold international cooperation while violating its principles.
