Indian-American lawyer Usha Chilukuri Vance is set to address the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, immediately preceding her husband Senator J D Vance's acceptance speech for the Republican vice-presidential nomination.
A Yale Law School graduate and seasoned trial lawyer, 38-year-old Usha Vance has largely remained out of the public eye until this significant moment. Her emergence into the national spotlight accompanies former President Donald Trump's selection of her 39-year-old husband as his running mate.
According to Republican Party officials, Usha will speak to a gathering of thousands of delegates and party leaders from across the United States, following a speech by Donald Trump Jr., and preceding an appearance by Trump himself. Should Trump and Vance succeed in the November 5 general elections, Usha would become the first Indian American second lady.
