Four days after a gunman's attempt to assassinate former US president Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, the public is still in the dark over the extent of his injuries, what treatment the Republican presidential nominee received in the hospital, and whether there may be any long-term effects on his health.
Trump's campaign has refused to discuss his condition, release a medical report or records, or make the doctors who treated him available, leaving information to dribble out from Trump, his friends and family.
In a statement, a Trump campaign spokesperson said the former president was "fine'' and "being checked out at a local medical facility." However, it wasn't until later that Trump revealed on social media he had been struck by a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear. Despite appearances at the Republican National Convention with a bandage over his ear, there have been no further updates from the campaign on his condition or treatment.
Rep. Ronny Jackson and family members have shared minimal updates, noting that Trump was missing part of his ear but that his wound would heal. This lack of information is consistent with Trump's history of releasing minimal medical details during his political career, reminiscent of his handling of his 2020 COVID-19 infection.
