Prime Minister Keir Starmer is hosting the European Political Community at Blenheim Palace to reset UK's post-Brexit relations with the EU and reaffirm support for Ukraine. The meeting is key for forging closer defense cooperation and strengthening geopolitical cohesion amidst the Russian conflict in Ukraine.
New Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to reset Britain's post-Brexit relationship with the European Union and reaffirm support for Ukraine. Starmer is hosting a European forum on Thursday that brings together dozens of leaders at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, to discuss border security cooperation.
The European Political Community (EPC), formed after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, gives Starmer a platform to advocate for closer defense ties ahead of the potential reelection of Donald Trump, who believes Europe should augment its own security. European leaders, including Charles Michel and Emmanuel Macron, welcomed his initiatives.
Starmer clarified that despite the historical Brexit vote, the UK is committed to bolstering European security and collaboration. The EPC offers an informal setting to initiate dialogue on a wide range of issues such as energy security, migration, and democratic safeguarding. Starmer emphasized developing personal relationships with other leaders is essential for future cooperation.
