European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of defending democracy within the European Union. She stated that democracy is under threat from both internal and external forces and called for unity among democratic forces to safeguard it.

On Thursday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the paramount importance of defending democracy within the European Union, following her re-election.

"Our democracy is under attack from inside and from outside, and therefore it is crucial that the democratic forces stand together to defend our democracy," von der Leyen told reporters.
