Sharad Pawar, the Chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), demonstrated political decorum during an official meeting on Saturday by standing up when he encountered his estranged nephew, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. His daughter, MP Supriya Sule, praised his adherence to protocol, urging political workers to emulate his example.
The 83-year-old Pawar attended the District Planning and Development Council meeting as a Rajya Sabha member. When Ajit Pawar, who chaired the meeting as the district's guardian minister, entered the room, the senior Pawar rose to his feet following protocol, a move that Sule later lauded at a rally in Pimpri Chinchwad.
Ajit Pawar had previously led a rebellion against his uncle last year, splitting the NCP to ally with the Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra, an action that had considerable political ramifications.
