Former U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed on Saturday that Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote him a note after he survived an assassination attempt last week. Trump, speaking to a crowd in Grand Rapids, Michigan, mentioned receiving the note following the gunshot wound to his ear on July 13.
Trump brought up Xi's letter while discussing his economic policies toward China during his presidency. He noted, 'I got along very well with President Xi,' and also referenced messages from other global leaders in the wake of the shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, Trump accepted the Republican Party's nomination to be its candidate for the November 5 presidential election.
