Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday called on the Uttar Pradesh government to retract its directive requiring eateries along the Kanwar route to display the names of their owners. Chaudhary emphasized that the pilgrimage transcends religious and caste boundaries.
Citing the inclusive nature of the Kanwar Yatra, Chaudhary noted that pilgrims do not inquire about religious affiliations when seeking services. He urged that the matter should remain unlinked to any specific religion.
Following the Muzaffarnagar Police's initial directive, the Uttar Pradesh government extended the controversial order statewide on Friday. The decision has been criticized by opposition parties and members of the ruling coalition for allegedly targeting Muslim traders.
