Nepal's Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli successfully passed a significant floor test in Parliament on Sunday, with over two-thirds of lawmakers voting in his favor. This comes nearly a week after his induction as the leader of a coalition government in the politically volatile Himalayan nation.
Oli garnered 188 votes out of the 263 members present, surpassing the required 138 to secure the vote of confidence. Speaker Devraj Ghimire confirmed the approval after the vote count. Oli's coalition includes the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party, and Janata Samajwadi Party, while opposition factions like CPN-Maoist Centre and Rashtriya Swotantra Party voted against him.
The Supreme Court of Nepal also weighed in by advancing a petition challenging Oli's appointment to a constitutional bench, highlighting the need for a thorough interpretation. Oli, now in his fourth term, stressed anti-corruption measures and national collaboration, aiming for improved governance and political stability in Nepal.
