U.S. President Joe Biden has ended his reelection campaign, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place as the Democratic Party's candidate against Republican Donald Trump. Biden, 81, announced his decision on X and will continue his term as president until January 2025.

Biden cited the best interest of his party and the country as the reason for his decision to step down. Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison assured the American people that the party would soon outline the nomination process going forward.

If nominated, Harris, 59, would make history as the first Black woman to lead a major-party ticket in U.S. history. Biden's campaign faced challenges, particularly after a poor debate performance against Trump, leading to growing support for Harris among Democrats.
