Ukraine's foreign minister met with his Chinese counterpart on Wednesday to discuss finding “common ground” to end the ongoing war with Russia.
The conflict has strained relations for over three years. Video footage showed Dmytro Kuleba arriving in Guangzhou for the first Ukrainian foreign minister visit since the war's inception in 2022.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the importance of bilateral relations and the continuous growth in trade. Despite China's close ties with Russia, it seeks a balanced approach to peace, which has caused friction with Ukraine and Western allies.
Kuleba underscored the need for a just and stable peace, urging China’s involvement in the resolution process. He arrived on Tuesday and will depart on Friday.
Chinese spokesperson Mao Ning reiterated China's commitment to support international consensus on resolving the crisis politically.
