Attempted Assassination of Former President Trump: FBI Reveals Suspect's Actions

In a chilling development, Thomas Crooks, a 20-year-old nursing home aide, is suspected of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. FBI Director Christopher Wray detailed Crooks' online searches about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on the same day he registered for the rally.

Wray testified that Crooks had fired at least eight rounds from a rooftop near the July 13 event, wounding Trump in the ear, killing one attendee, and injuring two others. The suspect used an AR-15 assault-style rifle, making it difficult for the crowd to notice. Crooks also flew a drone capturing live footage before the incident.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though Crooks is described as a loner. Explosive devices found in his home and car were designed for remote detonation, but the FBI believes he would have been unsuccessful. The incident underscores the elevated threat environment around the presidential campaign, leading to the resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
