Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what she characterized as the Israeli government's 'genocidal actions' in Gaza, labeling them acts of 'barbarism.'
Her comments came following Netanyahu's defense of Israel's ongoing conflict in Gaza during a speech to the US Congress on Wednesday. Despite the gravity of the situation, Netanyahu received a warm welcome and a bipartisan standing ovation organized by House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican lawmakers.
Gandhi emphasized that just speaking up for the civilians, including mothers, fathers, doctors, nurses, aid workers, journalists, teachers, writers, poets, senior citizens, and the thousands of innocent children affected by the violence, is not sufficient. She urged every right-thinking individual and government worldwide to condemn the Israeli government's actions and insist on their cessation.
In a post on X, Gandhi remarked that it is unacceptable for a world professing civility and morality to witness Netanyahu receiving such an ovation. She accused him of hypocritically framing the conflict as 'a clash between barbarism and civilization,' highlighting the support his 'barbaric' policies receive from much of the Western world. Gandhi has consistently voiced her opposition to Israel's Gaza operations and shown solidarity with Palestinians.
