Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Sunil Kumar Singh has been expelled from the Bihar Legislative Council following accusations of unruly behaviour in an earlier session this year. The expulsion was approved by voice vote, shortly after the Ethics Committee submitted its findings to acting chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh. Singh, an aide to RJD president Lalu Prasad, was charged with raising slogans against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on February 13.
In addition to Singh's expulsion, the Council suspended another RJD MLC, Mohd Qari Sohaib, for two days due to disruptive actions on the same day. The inquiry revealed that Sohaib expressed regret, whereas Singh remained unyielding. The suspensions and expulsion decision coincided with the last day of the monsoon session, set to take effect when the House reconvenes.
Reacting to Singh's expulsion, RJD legislators, including Opposition Leader Rabri Devi, arrived wearing black badges in protest. Sunil Kumar Singh lashed out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, calling him vindictive. Rabri Devi condemned the expulsion as a 'murder of democracy' and questioned whether action would be taken against Kumar for threatening Singh. The RJD has stated that further steps will be decided by party leadership.
