Joint Call for Ceasefire in Gaza Amid Rising Tensions

In a coordinated appeal, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have called for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza, warning of the potential for broader conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

'The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. The human suffering is unacceptable. It cannot continue,' stated the three prime ministers.

They stressed that Israel must heed international concerns, emphasizing civilian protection as a requirement under international humanitarian law. They underscored that Palestinian civilians should not bear the burden of the conflict aimed at defeating Hamas.

The leaders also expressed great concern about potential escalation in the region, condemning Iran's recent attack on Israel and urging Iran and Hezbollah to cease their actions.

Following Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel, Hezbollah began launching rockets, leading to exchanges of fire and airstrikes that displaced thousands on both sides.

In related news, Sheikh Mustafa Abu Arra, a Hamas leader in the West Bank, died under Israeli custody, igniting further debate about prison conditions and treatment of Palestinian detainees.
