The announcement comes after the election commission confirmed the poll date, ending months of speculation.

Wickremesinghe, speaking in Galle, emphasized that his leadership during the economic crisis warrants continued support. Despite challenges and factional splits within his party, Wickremesinghe remains hopeful for a broad-based backing to secure his presidency.
