Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for setting zero poverty targets starting at the village level during the ninth NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, which saw dramatic scenes as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee walked out, alleging her microphone had been switched off prematurely. Modi stressed that addressing poverty on an individual basis, rather than just through programs, is critical for achieving a 'Viksit Bharat'.
Modi also pushed for creating an investor-friendly environment to attract FDI, emphasizing the need for states to compete for investments and prepare an 'Investment-friendly Charter.' The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of law and order, good governance, and infrastructure as key drivers for attracting investments.
In addition, Modi highlighted the importance of cooperation between states and the central government to achieve the vision of a developed India by 2047. He urged states to create Demographic Management Plans to tackle future ageing population issues and to spread natural farming practices for better agricultural productivity and market linkages.
