The Bombay High Court on Monday summoned Shiv Sena's Ravindra Waikar following a petition filed by Amol Kirtikar, a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate, challenging Waikar's narrow victory from the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat.
Kirtikar, who lost the election by just 48 votes, alleges serious lapses and discrepancies in the vote counting process. He contends that 333 impersonator votes and breaches of counting rules by poll officials materially affected the result.
Justice Sandeep Marne issued summons to Waikar and 19 other respondents, scheduling the hearing for September 2. Kirtikar's petition seeks to nullify Waikar's election and declare Kirtikar as the winner. This is the second petition filed against Waikar's election, following a similar plea by Bharat Shah last month.
