The opposition Samajwadi Party MLAs caused a commotion in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon session on Monday, lambasting the BJP government as 'anti-development' and 'anti-Constitution.'
As soon as the Assembly convened, SP legislators stormed into the well of the House with placards, decrying the state government's performance on development and law enforcement.
SP MLA Jahid Beg dramatically strapped a poster to his back, demanding the annulment of the Bhadohi Development Authority's master plan in the public interest. The uproar subsided only after Speaker Satish Mahana intervened, prompting the SP MLAs to return to their seats.
This session marks the first since the Lok Sabha elections, and notable changes in seating arrangements were apparent. Mata Prasad Pandey now serves as the Leader of Opposition, replacing Akhilesh Yadav, who has been elected to the Parliament. Shivpal Yadav was seen seated beside Pandey.
SP MLAs Rakesh Pratap Singh and Abhay Singh, who crossed party lines to support the BJP in the Rajya Sabha polls, were present in the House. Rakesh Pratap Singh was seated with Jansatta Dal Loktantrik Leader Raghuraj Pratap Singh, also known as Raja Bhaiya; Abhay Singh was relegated to the last row.
Interestingly, Apna Dal (Sonelal) leader and SP MLA Pallavi Patel, who distanced herself from the party during the Lok Sabha polls, was seen among the SP members but did not partake in the protest.
