BJP Protests Over Bangladeshi Infiltration Disrupt Jharkhand Assembly

The Jharkhand Assembly saw chaos as BJP MLAs raised concerns over Bangladeshi infiltration and alleged police atrocities against tribals. The uproar led to multiple adjournments. Amid disruptions, a supplementary budget was tabled. Opposition demanded action following court orders to identify infiltrators and address issues of police misconduct.

The Jharkhand Assembly was thrown into turmoil on Monday as BJP MLAs voiced concerns over Bangladeshi infiltration and alleged atrocities against tribals, resulting in multiple adjournments until Tuesday.

As the session commenced at 11 am, BJP members stormed the well of the House, demanding the government's response to the high court's directive to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in the Santhal Parganas region and alleged police brutality against tribal students in Pakur district.

The disruptions forced adjournments at 11:26 am and 12:40 pm, with the House set to reconvene at 11 am the next day. Despite the chaos, Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon managed to table a supplementary budget of Rs 4,833.39 crore for the financial year 2024-25.

Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto repeatedly appealed for order, but BJP protests continued unabated. Leader of the opposition, Amar Kumar Bauri, claimed that tribal land was being grabbed by infiltrators, and accused police of assaulting protestors in Pakur.

Poreyahat MLA Pradip Yadav and other Congress and JMM leaders accused the BJP of attempting to divide Jharkhand by raising such issues. Over 15 people were injured in clashes between police and tribal students in Pakur district, intensifying the assembly's heated debate.

Outside the assembly, Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi called for a Special Investigation Team to probe the declining tribal population, citing census data showing a significant demographic shift in the Santhal Pargana region.
