Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez asserted on Monday that his campaign has irrefutable proof of victory in Sunday's highly contested election. Electoral authorities had declared President Nicolas Maduro the winner.
Gonzalez, alongside opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, reported to the press that they have obtained over 70 percent of the tally sheets, displaying results that put Gonzalez ahead.
Addressing supporters outside campaign headquarters in Caracas, Gonzalez stated, “I speak to you with the calmness of the truth. Your will, expressed through your vote, will be respected. We possess the tally sheets that validate our victory.”
