TMC to Move Resolution Condemning North Bengal Bifurcation Demands
The ruling TMC will move a resolution on August 5 against efforts to divide West Bengal into union territories. This decision follows Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's criticism of the BJP's demands. The West Bengal assembly previously passed a similar resolution last year. The BJP claims the TMC discriminates against North Bengal economically.

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to move a resolution on August 5 against alleged efforts to bifurcate North Bengal districts into union territories, according to a minister.
The move comes after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the BJP's demands during an assembly session, following calls to create a union territory comprising Bengal's two districts and parts of Bihar, integrating North Bengal with the northeast region.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay confirmed that the resolution aims to condemn any such attempts to divide the state. 'If the BJP MLAs are against the division, let them come forward and categorically state they are opposed to any such attempt,' he asserted.
Reacting to the decision, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari emphasized that the BJP opposes any division of Bengal but accused the ruling party of economic discrimination against North Bengal.
Fresh demands for a separate state of Cooch Behar have arisen following Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar's proposal to include northern West Bengal under the Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region). Some BJP leaders have openly demanded North Bengal districts be classified as union territories.
