Hezbollah Seeks Missing Commander's Body After Israeli Strike in Beirut

Hezbollah is searching for the body of top commander Fouad Shukur, targeted in an Israeli strike in Beirut. The incident follows a strike in Tehran that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Civil defense workers are combing the rubble. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported casualties, including children and a woman, with 74 wounded.

The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah announced on Wednesday its ongoing search for the body of a top commander, Fouad Shukur, who was targeted in an Israeli strike in Beirut.

This was Hezbollah's first comment following the Tuesday strike, which also involved an overnight attack in Tehran that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Hezbollah did not elaborate on Haniyeh's death.

Israel claimed to have killed Shukur, identified as the mastermind behind a rocket attack in Majdal Shams that resulted in 12 youth fatalities. Hezbollah said civil defense teams are looking for Shukur's body amid the rubble.

Shukur, also known as Sayed Mohsen, has a murky background and was linked to the 1983 truck bombing in Beirut that killed 241 U.S. Marines. The U.S. Treasury had placed a $5 million bounty on him.

The Lebanese Health Ministry reported the deaths of at least two children and a woman in the strike, along with 74 injuries.
