Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday criticized the Kerala state government for not acting promptly on the early warnings issued by the Center regarding potential landslides in Wayanad, which could have minimized the tragic loss of 158 lives.

In the Rajya Sabha, Shah revealed that the Central government had sent multiple early warnings, with the first on July 23, followed by additional alerts on July 24, 25, and 26, cautioning of heavy rainfall and the imminent risk of landslides. He emphasized that if the Kerala government had taken timely action, many lives could have been saved.

Highlighting India's advanced early warning system, Shah disclosed that 9 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to Kerala on July 23 under his directive. Despite these measures, questions are being raised about the state government's response. At present, ongoing rescue operations involve 1200 workers from various Indian armed forces and agencies.
