Governor Seeks Response from Karnataka CM on Site Distribution Allegations

Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot has requested a response from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding site distribution allegations by Mysuru Urban Development Authority, including to Siddaramaiah's wife. This follows a BJP delegation's memorandum demanding a CBI probe and the Chief Minister’s resignation. Ministers in Congress allege political motivations in the Governor's actions.

Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot has formally requested a response from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah concerning allegations about site distribution by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority, including to Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi. This action follows a memorandum submitted by a BJP delegation on July 25, calling for a transfer of the MUDA case to the CBI and the Chief Minister’s resignation.

“Since a memorandum has been submitted, it is imperative for the Governor to seek a reply from the Chief Minister,” said insiders at Raj Bhavan. Home Minister G Parameshwara insinuated political motives behind the Governor’s request. “The Governor has some Constitutional powers but should function within its framework. This seems politically motivated,” Parameshwara remarked in Bagalkote.

Karnataka IT and Biotechnology Minister Priyank Kharge accused the BJP of misusing the Governor's office. He cited examples from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, stating that Governors were overstepping their limits in those states too. Kharge added, “There's an established pattern of the BJP using the I-T Department, ED, and Governors against their opponents.”
