The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has castigated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its 'silence' regarding the tragic deaths of a woman and her three-year-old child, who fell into a waterlogged drain in East Delhi. AAP contends that the BJP seeks power but shirks its responsibilities towards the people.
Addressing the media, AAP's Delhi convener Gopal Rai accused the BJP of 'double standards.' Rai noted that BJP spokespersons initially claimed the drain belonged to the Public Works Department (PWD). However, once it was revealed the drain is under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), they remained silent. He demanded financial assistance for the bereaved family and punitive action against the responsible officials.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) clarified that the concerning drain section had been transferred to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), while the portion under its control is covered with RCC slabs. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday around 8 pm during heavy rain in Khoda Colony in Ghazipur. Tanuja and her son Priyansh slipped and fell into the under-construction drain on their way back from a weekly market.
