The Union Cabinet has sanctioned eight access-controlled national highway projects, extending over 936 km, to enhance India's infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that this development would significantly bolster economic growth and employment opportunities.

With a projected expenditure of Rs 50,655 crore, these projects will minimize land acquisition requirements by aligning with existing routes wherever feasible, according to Union Information Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

These initiatives are expected to generate approximately 4.42 crore man-days of employment, both directly and indirectly. The projects include major highways across various states, from the Agra-Gwalior stretch to the Guwahati Ring Road, which will see substantial upgrades, including a key bridge over the Brahmaputra River.
