Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala's decision to donate one month's salary as an MLA to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund for victims of the Wayanad landslide disaster has sparked controversy.

On Friday evening, Chennithala, a member of the Congress Working Committee and former Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, announced his donation through a statement on the party's official social media handle.

However, state party chief K Sudhakaran expressed his displeasure, stating that there was no need to contribute to funds managed by the CPI(M)-led Left government. Sudhakaran suggested that donations should be directed towards Congress's own relief efforts.

This controversy unfolds amid an online smear campaign discouraging donations to the CMDRF, leading to a police investigation.
