Bangladesh in Turmoil: Prime Minister Reportedly Resigns Amid Massive Protests
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allegedly resigned and fled the country amid large-scale protests resulting in over 106 deaths. The conflict arose from public discontent over a government job quota for war veterans' families. Despite no official confirmation, the situation remains tense as the army chief is expected to address the nation.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly stepped down and left the country, as massive protests against her administration have led to the deaths of over 106 people since Sunday. No official confirmation has been provided regarding her resignation and departure from Dhaka.
The private Jamuna television news channel disclosed that Hasina was compelled to resign as Prime Minister due to widespread protests over a contentious quota system. This system allocated 30 percent of government jobs to relatives of veterans who participated in Bangladesh's 1971 War of Independence. Reports suggest that the army chief is expected to address the nation soon.
The government initially ordered a complete internet blackout as protestors called for a mass ''Long March to Dhaka''. However, a government agency verbally directed the restoration of broadband internet around 1:15 on Monday.
