Assam Congress state chief Bhupen Kumar Borah launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for indulging in 'Hindu-Muslim politics.' Speaking to reporters on Monday, Borah said that the people of Assam are not interested in the BJP's communal agenda.

Borah revealed that a united opposition of 18 parties in Assam plans to maintain their alliance until the 2026 assembly polls, contesting all elections as a single entity over the next two years. He argued that the BJP's communal strategies have already been rejected during the Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress leader also criticized Sarma's proposal to introduce a law imposing life imprisonment for cases of 'love jihad' and accused the CM of politicizing land rights. Borah further condemned the state’s economic policies, citing over-reliance on liquor sales and beneficiary schemes while using state media for the propagation of communal ideas.

Borah pledged continued efforts to expose the failings of Sarma's government in the coming days.
